What is a closed rabbitry?

From time to time we get requests for someone to visit our rabbitry. Sometimes this is to see how we have things set up, sometimes it's a request to meet a rabbit before purchasing, or sometimes this is to verify we are indeed a legit breeder and not a scammer. While all these requests are completely understandable, we still operate as a CLOSED rabbitry only.

A closed rabbitry denies outside visitors for several reasons. One, it's for the protection of the animals. In the show world, most of us know of someone who had the devastating and violating experience of an animal right's activist posing as a "buyer" only to return later and release all their animals into the wild. Not only does that rob the breeder of money and property, but it's certain death to those precious animals.

The second reason is similar to the first, which is sometimes a "buyer" will return and steal rabbits. I'm not interested in inviting thieves to my property.

On top of wanting to protect our animals, I also want to protect my family. Strangers don't need to know where we live. Period.

And finally, an increasingly important issue is biosafety. Keeping traffic low in the rabbitry makes it easier to mitigate disease such as RHDV2, which is a hemorrhaging disease for rabbits. RHDV2 can decimate an entire herd within a day or two.

All of these issues combined are what led us to operate as a closed rabbitry.

Despite being a closed rabbitry, our desire is to still be helpful in answering any questions or concerns regarding a specific rabbit. Since we breed and sell mostly for show, we certainly want our buyers set up with the best rabbits for their herd and breeding goals.

For the rabbits we sometimes sell as pets, we want owners to feel well-equipped and confident in purchasing from us. We love taking photos of our bunnies, so never hesitate to ask for some!

Quality Explained

Show Quality

A rabbit that has been shown previously and was found

by at least one ARBA judge to be free from any DQs.

Sold with pedigree.

Brood Quality

A rabbit from show stock that may be overweight for show

or have some other DQ, but is still nicely typed and will benefit

a breeding program.

Sold with pedigree.

Show Potential

A rabbit that has NOT yet been shown but appears to have good

type and promise. Also appears to be free from any known DQs

and will most likely be showable (though not guaranteed).

These rabbits will always be 3-4 months or older so as to be

properly assessed.

Sold with pedigree.

Pet Quality

Once in a while we have rabbits that for one reason or another

do not meet any of the other three categories. These rabbits still

possess good health and personalities that we purposely breed into our herd.

No known sick or aggressive rabbit will ever be sold.

Sold without pedigree.
