In 2020, my daughters and I decided to dive into the Holland Lop show world. Complete newbies to the hobby, we struggled to find good brood stock. We eventually connected with Linda Hibbert from LapLops Rabbitry and took a pair of her does.

On top of the tedious search for our foundation rabbits, the pandemic shut down all local shows, stripping away our ability to learn hands-on around others with much more expertise.

It was much like driving in the dark! We read and studied as much as we could on our own to understand how to evaluate our rabbits and what the ARBA show standard was -- and on plenty occasions we petted out rabbits we thought didn't meet the breed standard only to discover later they turned out beautiful! It was a year full of many mistakes and misunderstandings about what it takes to breed good Hollands.

 

Thankfully, our story doesn't end on such a dismal note. Several breeders took us under their wings and mentored us as much as possible over texts and many, many FB messages! Three years into breeding for show, and we're finally seeing progress within our herd.

We are dedicated to breeding toward the ARBA Standard of Perfection, focusing specifically on short midsections and width within our herd. It is such a joy to see our strategic perseverance beginning to pay off. We strive for each show season to be leaps ahead of where we were last season.
